Class Discussion Reflection
Today's class discussion about immigration was very interesting. I would have to say that I agree with what Jose said about how the argument is pointless because it just keeps going back and forth. We really don't get anywhere. This nation is too divided on their opinions. If we were truly "One Nation Under God," I think we would get somewhere. Our nation is more like One Nation Under ME. Everyone has their own opinions and act according to things that will benefit them. One thing we can all agree on is the citizenship process needs to be a lot faster. Someone mentioned that they are still trying to get people legal now from 1992. I also liked the point that Cheyanne said after I mentioned that I think illegal immigrants should be deported if they are committing a crime. She said that being illegal is a crime, so I think that SB1070 is a good bill. If someone looks suspicious, then they should be pulled over and be asked for papers. The ones who say it is racist probably know someone close to them who might get pulled over. I think that it isn't a big deal for U.S. citizen's because they know that they have their papers. It shouldn't be a problem. I also believe that E-Verify needs to be used more often to find the illegal immigrants and send them back and the people who are hiring them should have their business shut down or at least fined. We need to secure our borders and get this problem fixed.
